The One Hour Union Jack: Make a Super Simple British Flag in Under an Hour
The Union Jack is a symbol of Great Britain and one of the most recognizable flags in the world. It's a beautiful and iconic flag, and it's surprisingly easy to make your own. In this article, we'll show you how to make a Union Jack in under an hour, using just a few simple materials.
Materials
- 1 yard of red fabric
- 1 yard of white fabric
- 1 yard of blue fabric
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Iron and ironing board
Instructions
- Cut out a rectangle of red fabric that is 3 feet wide by 2 feet tall. This will be the base of your flag.
- Cut out a rectangle of white fabric that is 1 foot wide by 2 feet tall. This will be the diagonal cross on your flag.
- Cut out two rectangles of blue fabric that are each 6 inches wide by 1 foot tall. These will be the horizontal and vertical crosses on your flag.
- Sew the white rectangle onto the red rectangle, centering it both horizontally and vertically. Press the seam allowance down.
- Sew one of the blue rectangles onto the white rectangle, centering it horizontally. Press the seam allowance down.
- Sew the other blue rectangle onto the white rectangle, centering it vertically. Press the seam allowance down.
- Iron your flag to give it a crisp, finished look.
Tips
- If you don't have a sewing machine, you can hand-sew your flag using a needle and thread. Just be sure to use small, even stitches.
- You can use any color fabric you like for your flag. However, the traditional colors are red, white, and blue.
- If you want to make a larger flag, simply increase the size of the fabric rectangles accordingly.
Congratulations! You've now made your own Union Jack. This beautiful and iconic flag is a great way to show your British pride. Fly it proudly from your home, office, or school.
