Joining the Resistance:

When France fell to Nazi Germany in 1940, Szabo was determined to fight for her beloved country. She joined the French Resistance, where she quickly rose through the ranks thanks to her fluency in English and exceptional espionage skills. As a courier and saboteur, she conducted perilous missions across occupied France, carrying vital messages and distributing propaganda.

Training with the SOE:

In 1943, Szabo was recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE),a British organization that trained and deployed secret agents into enemy-occupied territories. She underwent rigorous training at Camp X in Canada, where she excelled in explosives, weaponry, and sabotage techniques.

Mission to France:

In July 1944, Szabo parachuted into France as part of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy. Her mission was to link up with local Resistance fighters and disrupt Nazi communications and supply lines. Szabo carried out her duties with bravery and skill, sabotaging German infrastructure and gathering valuable intelligence.

Capture and Torture:

Unfortunately, Szabo's luck ran out in June 1944. While attempting to return to England, she was captured by the Gestapo. She was subjected to brutal torture, but she refused to betray her fellow agents or reveal any secrets. Despite her resilience, Szabo was eventually sent to the notorious Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Death and Legacy:

On February 5, 1945, Violette Szabo was executed at Ravensbrück along with several other female agents. She was just 23 years old. However, her legacy lived on. Szabo was posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest civilian honor for gallantry in the United Kingdom, and her story has been immortalized in books, films, and documentaries.
