In the annals of organized crime, few murders have captured the public's attention like the assassination of Joey Gallo. A charismatic and ruthless mob boss, Gallo was gunned down in a Little Italy restaurant in 1972. For decades, the identity of his killer remained a mystery, shrouded in a web of lies and conflicting accounts.

But now, a new book by author Anthony M. Destefano reveals the shocking truth: Carmine Dibiase, a notorious wiseguy with ties to the powerful Colombo crime family, was the mastermind behind Gallo's murder.

The Plot

In the early 1970s, tensions between Gallo and the Colombo family were reaching a boiling point. Gallo had been openly challenging the family's authority, and Dibiase, a loyal soldier, was determined to put an end to his defiance.

Dibiase carefully planned Gallo's assassination. He recruited a team of hitmen, including his brother, Salvatore, and a young up-and-comer named Joseph "Crazy Joe" Colombo Jr. The hit was set for April 7, 1972, at Umberto's Clam House, a popular restaurant in Little Italy.

On the fateful day, Gallo and his bodyguard, Peter "Petey Shots" Diapoulos, arrived at Umberto's for dinner. As they sat down at a table, Dibiase's hitmen approached from behind. In a matter of seconds, Gallo and Diapoulos were riddled with bullets.

The Aftermath

The assassination of Joey Gallo sent shockwaves through the underworld. The Colombo family was quick to deny any involvement, and Dibiase and his crew disappeared into the shadows.

In the years that followed, several people were convicted of participating in the hit, but Dibiase's role remained a secret. He continued to operate as a powerful figure in the Colombo family, amassing a fortune from racketeering, gambling, and other illicit activities.

The Truth Revealed

In his new book, Anthony M. Destefano uncovers the truth about Carmine Dibiase and his role in Gallo's murder. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with key figures, Destefano paints a vivid portrait of a ruthless and cunning mobster who would stop at nothing to protect his interests.

Destefano's book is a gripping true crime narrative that exposes the inner workings of organized crime and the lengths to which its members will go to maintain their power.
