Max Velthuijs was a Dutch author and illustrator of children's books. He was born in The Hague, Netherlands, in 1923. Velthuijs began his career as a commercial artist, but he soon turned to writing and illustrating children's books.

Velthuijs's books are known for their simple yet elegant illustrations and their heartwarming stories. He has written and illustrated over 30 books for children, including the Frog series, the Bear series, and the Pig series.
