In 1919, Pessoa was elected President of Brazil. He took office at a time when the country was facing a number of challenges. Pessoa implemented a number of reforms to address these challenges, including stabilizing the economy, improving infrastructure, and promoting education.

Pessoa's most significant achievement was the creation of the Brazilian Constitution of 1924. This constitution established a new political system for Brazil, and guaranteed a number of fundamental rights and freedoms. The constitution is still in force today, and is considered one of the most important documents in Brazilian history.

Pessoa's presidency was also marked by a number of other important events. In 1920, he oversaw the creation of the League of Nations, which was the forerunner to the United Nations. He also played a key role in the negotiations that led to the end of the Russo-Japanese War.

Pessoa died in Rio de Janeiro on July 12, 1942. He is considered one of the most important figures in Brazilian history, and is remembered for his role in transforming the country into a modern nation.
